Vital View - Champions League, 18th-19th April 17

The Champions League season continued with the latest round of games played in midweek.

Atletico Madrid saw off the challenge of Leicester on Tuesday to advance into the last four, as did Madrid rivals Real Madrid following an eventual extra time win over Bayern Munich.

Wednesday's ties ended with Juventus preventing another miraculous Barcelona comeback as Monaco proved too strong for Borussia Dortmund.

Here's a round-up of the Champions League action from the other games.

Results

Tuesday 18th April 2017 - CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - QUARTER-FINALS
Leicester City 1-1 Atlético Madrid 19:45 (1-2 agg)
Real Madrid 4-2 Bayern Munich 19:45 (6-3 agg)

Wednesday 19th April 2017 - CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - QUARTER-FINALS
Barcelona 0-0 Juventus 19:45 (0-3 agg)
Monaco 3-1 Borussia Dortmund 19:45 (6-3 agg)

Leicester's interest in the Champions League, indeed that of the Premier League, ended when the Foxes came up short - a 1-1 draw with last season's beaten finalists Atletico Madrid wasn't enough, the Spanish side advanced 2-1 on aggregate.

Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a hat trick to take his Champions League tally to 100 goals - more importantly for Real Madrid this secured a controversial 4-2 win after extra time to see off Bayern Munich 6-3 on aggregate.

Defensively Juventus, who would have been wary of what happened to Paris Saint Germain in the last-16, did what they needed to do against Barcelona to secure a place in the quarter-finals. A 0-0 draw at the Nou Camp saw the Bianconeri through 3-0 on aggregate with it quite literally an Italian Job in Turin last.

Monaco's place in the last-four was also confirmed on Wednesday when the potential Ligue 1 champions saw off the challenge of Borussia Dortmund to make a first semi-final since 2004. The French side, 3-1 winners on the night, advanced with a 6-3 aggregate win overall.
